A frequent milkweed of marshes, cypress swamps and floodplain forests in north and central Florida. The range extends throughout the southeastern coastal states from Texas to South Carolina, plus Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois & Indiana.
Flowers are in umbels, white, and typical of milkweeds with five reflexed corolla lobes. Leaves are opposite, or nearly opposite, on thin petioles, smooth and elliptic to lanceolate.
Asclepias perennis is a member of the Apocynaceae - Dogbane family.
