This shrub is native to Cuba and Hispaniola and has occasionally escaped cultivation along the southeast coast of Florida as far north as Brevard County.
Peregrina can grow into a tree 4.5m (15 ft.) tall. The alternate leaves are 7.6-15.2cm (3 to 6 in.) long, and highly variable in shape, from ovate to three-lobed with a pointy tip. The bright red to pink five-petaled flowers that are 2.5cm (1 in.) across. Flowers appear as clusters on cymes at the end of the branches. Fruit is a six-lobed capsule 1.3-2.5cm (1/2 to 1 in.) long containing 3 seeds.
