These little mushrooms often appear at the bases of stumps and can be found throughout Florida. The range extends worldwide except for the driest and coldest regions.
The caps may be from minuscule up to 2cm (~3/4 in.) in diameter, initially oval and white, then expanding to bell-shaped or convex and darkening to gray or grayish-brown more towards the center and remaining pale around the edge. Gills are free from the stem, also white at first, then darkening through gray to black, but not turning to ink as other closely related mushrooms do. The stem is white, smooth, hollow, slender and 1.5-4cm (6/10 to 1-1/2 in.) tall.

Coprinellus disseminatus is a member of the Psathyrellaceae  - Brittlestems and Allies family.
