Peach-colored Fly Agaric
Synonym(s): Amanita muscaria var. persicina D.T.Jenkins
Florida native
A mushroom found in much of Florida except for the southeast peninsula and the Keys. The range extends through the southeastern United States west into Texas and Arkansas, north to the Ohio River, and northeast into Pennsylvania & New Jersey.
The distinctive reddish caps are 4-13cm (1-1/2 to 5 in.) wide. Young caps are nearly globular to convex, flattening out or becoming concave with age. The cap is covered with pale tannish to yellowish flakes called cap scales that are remnants of the universal veil. Gills are free of the stem and creamy colored sometimes with a slight pinkish tint. The stipe (stem) is 4–10.5cm (1-1/2 to 4-1/8 in.) long, 1–2 cm (~3/8 to 3/4 in.) wide, cylindrical or narrowing upwards with an outward flare at the very top. The ring, if present, is minimal and delicate. The stipe is white above the ring and yellowish below, as is the ring itself.
Amanita persicina is a member of the Amanitaceae - Amanita Mushrooms and Allies family.
