Phylloxera is a genus if insects that cause gals to form on hickory trees.
These galls can take many forms and are frequently found on leaves of plants in the genus Carya.
Insect galls are abnormal growths on plants that provide a protective structure for the larvae of the gall-causing insect to grow relatively safely.


Phylloxera spp. is a member of the Phylloxeridae - Phylloxerans family.
