A common dragonfly of quiet water with emergent grasses such as ponds, lakes, ditches and slow moving streams throughout Florida. The range extends through much of the southeastern coastal plain from Texas into New Jersey.
Ornate pennants are small dragonflies, typically 28-35mm (up to 1-3/8 in.) in length. There usually is an amber spot with black stripes at the base of the hindwings. This spot can vary in size and may be brown in some males. The sizes of the thorax have several black stripes. Females and juveniles of both sexes have yellow on the face, thorax and the dorsal abdominal spots. In mature males the face and thorax are brown and the abdominal spots are a dull red.
Very similar to Amanda's pennant in appearance.

Celithemis ornata is a member of the Libellulidae - Skimmers family.
