This moth is found throughout Florida and ranges mainly through the southeastern coastal plain from Texas to Connecticut.
Little wife underwings have mottled reddish-brown forewings with black lines and lighter areas. The hindwings have alternating bands of black and yellowish-orange. The wingspan is from 5.4 to 7cm (2-1/8 to 2-3/4 in.).
Larvae feed mainly on wax myrtle.
Catocala muliercula is a member of the Erebidae - Quadrifid noctuids family.
