Found usually in wooded habitats throughout Florida. The range includes the southeastern United States mostly east of the Mississippi River and south of the Ohio and Potomac Rivers.
A mostly brownish lizard with five stripes running along the body. The middle, or dorsal stripe is narrower and lighter and in some individuals may be hard to see. All stripes become lighter with age. Juveniles have blue tails, fading with age as do the darker areas between stripes and reddish-orange coloring on the head. Juvenile coloring can persist into adulthood.
