Found in open and cultivated areas and gardens throughout much of Florida. Also found mostly in the coastal areas of Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana. The range extends south through the Carribean, Central and South America as far as Argentina.
Spartocera fusca is a fairly large insect with adults from 20-24mm (~3/4 to 1 in.) long. The rear of the body is oval-shaped and they are marked yellowish-orange and black. This species has a pair of angled dark 'racing stripes' on the thorax.
Preferred host plants include Solanum americanum(American black nightshade) and ground cherries of the genus Physalis.


Spartocera fusca is a member of the Coreidae - Leaf-footed Bugs family.
