These tiny ants apparently originated in southeast Asia or Melanesia, and are now found worldwide in tropical and subtropical regions. They have easily adapted to living in buildings where they may extend their range into more temerate areas.
Overall brownish-black with pale brown antenna and extremities. The first (lowest) antenna segment is longer than he rest and the elliptical eyes are set well back on the head. Overall length is 2.3-3mm (~1/10 in.) long.
Crazy ants are hosts for the ant cricket Myrmecophilus americanus, which has been found in the Florida keys.
Paratrechina longicornis is a member of the Formicidae - Ants family.
