Eburia quadrigeminata
Ivory-marked Beetle
Ivory Marked Longhorn Borer
Florida native
This long-horned beetle can be found in most of Florida. The range extends throughout eastern North America into southern Canada and west into Texas.
Of the ivory-marked beetles, E. quadrigeminata can be identified by the spines on the hind femora being prominent and nearly equal and prominent spines near the apex of the elytra. Also all four pairs of the ivory marks are visible and elongate.
Eggs are laid in dead wood and the larvae typically can take two years to mature. The larvae are very hardy and can survive in wood that has been timbered, milled and finished, although this may slow development even more. Adults have been known to emerge from furniture and building materials anywhere from 5 to 40 years later.
Several other Eburia species can be found in south Florida. More information on this genus in Florida can be found at freshfromflorida.com.
