The spotted orbweaver spider ranges throughout the southeastern United States, west into Texas and north into Indiana to Massachusetts.
The part of the legs closest to the body are typically bright red in this species, and the body markings are usually more distinct than in the similar N. crucifera.
This genus of orbweavers usually build their webs near dusk and take them down around dawn each day.
