On the evening of September 15, 2021 four civilian astronauts were launched into orbit in a SpaceX Dragon capsule atop a Falcon rocket. This launch occurred just as it was getting dark and people all around central Florida were treated to the 'jellyfish' effect after the rocket reached a high enough altitude to once again be in the light of the setting sun. Here are three photographs that I took from the beach in Ormond By The Sea.
The first, that is actually sort of fish shaped, is an exposure of 1/5 of a second just after the booster separated from the upper portion of the rocket. The second photograph was an 8/10 of a second exposure causing both the booster and upper stage to appear as short, straight, bright lines. The third photo was a 3/10 second exposure and my best capture of the rings caused by the venting nitrogen used to steer the booster into proper orientation for returning to earth.
