Found in mesic hammocks, often on limestone and in shaded grottoes in southernmost Florida plus Citrus and Hernando Counties. The range also includes Texas and Puerto Rico.

Tectaria heracleifolia is a member of the Dryopteridaceae - Wood Fern family.
