Cenchrus incertus

Synonym: Cenchrus spinifex

Florida native

Almost anyone who has been to the beach in Florida will be familiar with this plant with the painful burs. I like to think this is nature's way of saying "Keep Off The Dunes!".
Many coastal plants are a critical factor in sand dune formation and preservation. Foot traffic on the dunes can uproot and destroy these beneficial species.

Cenchrus incertus is a member of the Poaceae - Grass family.
