The big brown bat is found throughout most of the United States and into Canada but is considered rare in Florida. The adults weigh from 15-20 grams (less than an ounce) with a wingspan of 13-16 inches and can fly at speeds up to 40 mph making it one of the fastest bat species.
Never touch a bat. If you find a bat on the ground contact a local wildlife rehabilitatior. You can find a listing at www.batworld.org.

Eptesicus fuscus is a member of the Vespertilionidae - Evening & Vesper bats family.
