This distinctive insect can turn its flexible neck in all directions. Note in the close up the that wings are shorter than the abdomem. In contrast, the praying mantis (Mantis religiosa) has wings that extend beyond the abdomen tip.

Stagmomantis carolina is a member of the Mantidae - Praying mantids family.
