Florida native


Found in hammocks of the Florida panhandle, the range extends throughout much of central and eastern North America.
A small butterfly with eyespots on both the upper and lower sides of the wings. Eyespots are surrounded by a yellow ring and have metalic silver centers. The undersides of the wings are paler brown with two dark brown lines.
Similar in appearance, Viola's wood satyr (M. cymela viola) is found in northeastern and peninsular Florida.

Megisto cymela is a member of the Nymphalidae - Brush-footed butterflies family.
