Object in Spiderweb
Point Washington State Forest
While hiking in the panhandle on the afternoon of New Year's Eve, I spotted this interesting object in a spiderweb near the trail. I guessed that it was an egg case from some spider.
Thanks to fellow Master Naturalist Lauren Swanson, Environmental Educator at Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve, who found two people who knew what this is. G.B. Edwards of the Florida State Collection of Arthropods and Daniel D. Dye of Florida Backyard Spiders both identified it as the egg sac of the Florida argiope - Argiope florida. Thanks to all of the above for their help.
